2018 Umpires Mentor Program

juniors

The WRFL Umpires Association is using a sponsor's grant to develop a mentor program in 2018.

The WRFL and the association have been instrumental in leading the way in developing umpiring academies in the west to recruit and train umpires. These new umpires generally start in under 9/10s and are mentored by a handful of experienced umpires who are on the ground with them throughout the game, however the small number of mentors available is restricting the number we can recruit each year.

The association, in conjunction with the WRFL, will now use this grant to recruit, train and run mentors during 2018. We are particularly looking for experienced people, ex-umpires and current umpires to be prepared to spend time early on Sunday mornings to mentor these new umpires.
Each mentor will be given a contract for the first eight weeks of the season and be thoroughly trained in the program. Remuneration will be provided at a higher rate compared to previous seasons.
