WRFL Update and 2017 Registration

Following discussions between the WRFL, Umpires Director Mark Westgarth and the WRFLUA, the following has resulted:

After the survey that was conducted in 2016, the WRFL umpires uniform will transfer to the AFL style for the 2017 season.

All umpires including first years will be provided with one uniform.

Field and boundary umpires: shirt, shorts and socks

Goal umpires: shirt and jacket

There is no cost to umpires however if you wish to have a second set, this can be can be purchased at a discount price.

The uniform will be managed by the league and the WRFLUA will receive a payment to assist the operations of the association.

Women’s competition

Already there are 37 teams being nominated to compete this year, which will involve seniors, Under 18, Under 15 and Under 12.

When games are to be played is still being determined by the WRFL.

Matt Kent, who has extensive experience in the VAFA, has been appointed to work with the umpires involved in the woman’s league. More details to follow.

The mentoring program which proved so successful last season will be run by the league in 2017 and they are currently working out details.

Seddon Facilities and Training

The WRFLUA has secured grants which are being used to equip our new premises at Seddon and assist in the recruitment of more umpires.

The Seddon rooms (Hanmer Reserve) will be used from the start of the 2017 season (1st April), with training moving to Tuesday and Thursday, and the Seddon Academy running on a Monday night whilst Wednesday night will be at MacKillop College.

Pre-season training will be a combination of Seddon, Scovell and MacKillop, further details will be released in the New Year. Training will commence from Monday 13th February 2017.

Online registration

The form has been updated so umpires will have no confusion in electing to be a member of the WRFLUA. Please register ASAP so we have a good idea who is returning, as this helps with the 2017 planning.

WRFLUA fees have not changed from last year and we encourage you to join the association as it represents you at hearings, tribunals, pay negotiations and disputes, and offers many social functions.

Further details in relation to coaching appointments, pay rates, social calendar etc will be released in 2017.

On behalf the of the WRFL Coaching Team and the WRFLUA Executive, we would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and look forward to seeing you all in 2017.
